Deb’s big break?

DebFinkelDeborah Finkel finishes shooting on Fox’s Prison Break – revival season 5.

Starring Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell.

Back in 2010 – a year after Prison Break originally wrapped – series lead Wentworth Miller implied that the show was unlikely to return:

“I feel as though we told the story we intended to tell. That’s something that’s very rare in television – that you’re allowed closure – and we were.”

In the series finale The Final Break, Miller’s character architect Michael Scofield was left as dead and buried.

Five years on and Miller was re-teamed with his former co-star and screen sibling Dominic Purcell on The FlashPurcell was Heatwave, and Miller was Captain Cold on the superhero series, and their reunion sparked a new interest in Prison Break.

Prison Break” has now started filming its fifth season with a new member added to the team, Faran Tahir. The fifth season would pick it up from where the “Prison Break” season 4 had ended, but with a twist.

Lead star Wentworth Miller will be reprising his role as Michael Scofield, and the new season will be based on a rescue mission to take imprisoned Scofield out of the jail in Yemen after being held as a prisoner over there for the past years after surviving his death. Tahir as Jamil would be his fellow cellmate with whom Michael is going to have a close connection.

Despite the fact that Michael died at the end of the series, the plot will give a “logical and believable” explanation for how the characters survived and are “still moving around the world”.

Gerry’s on the rise…

Gerry South books a roll on ABC Miniseries, “When We Rise“.

GerrySouthABC is reassembling the team of the 2008 movie Milk for another project about the gay rights movement, eight-hour miniseries When We Rise. Milk director Gus Van Sant has joined the mini, written/executive produced by Milk writer Dustin Lance Black and executive produced by the film’s producer Bruce Cohen. The project, which had been in development at ABC for more than two years, has now been officially greenlighted for production with Van Sant directing the first two-hour episode. He will executive produce the mini alongside Black, Cohen and Laurence Mark.
When We Rise”chronicles the personal and political struggles, set-backs and triumphs of a diverse family of LGBT men and women who helped pioneer one of the last legs of the U.S. Civil Rights movement from its turbulent infancy in the 20th century to the once unfathomable successes of today. The period piece tells the history of the gay rights movement, starting with the Stonewall Riots in 1969.

The miniseries is an important passion project for Black, who was raised in a Mormon house in Texas. Since breaking out in Hollywood, the writer/producer has worked tirelessly for marriage equality and gay rights, and spoke of the matter, while delivering his acceptance speech at the 2009 Academy Awards.

Aside from “Milk,” which starred Sean Penn as the title character, Black’s other credits include Leonardo DiCaprio’s 2011 film “J. Edgar” and HBO’s “Big Love”. Most recently, Van Sant directed Matthew McConaughey’sThe Sea of Trees,” and most famously was at the helm of “Good Will Hunting”.
