OCT. 6TH 1:30 P.M. AT CINEPLEX INTERNATIONAL VILLAGE
Local filmmaker Alex Lasheras arrives on the scene with this debut feature, a unique psychological thriller dealing with notions of self-identity and reality. When the eponymous heroine begins to experience hallucinations during what is supposed to be a romantic getaway with her pop-star boyfriend, fear and confusion test her ability to distinguish the visions from reality.
Cadence’s fragmented psyche is chronicled in a double narrative which navigates between the real and the imaginary, truth and fiction. When the plot changes course, viewers are presented with questions about the nature of identity. Is it nothing more than a collection of experiences? What happens to it if one’s memory is damaged? Crowdfunded and shot on location in Langley, this is a thoroughly entertaining and remarkably tense rumination on memory, trauma, and the psyche’s efforts to protect itself.
“Cadence is an innovative narrative exploring the effects of memory on shaping an individual’s identity; how traumatic events can affect our memories and the outcomes of future thought and action… [Do] we guide our narratives or are we simply victims of circumstance?”—Alex Lasheras

Window Horses (The Poetic Persian Epiphany of Rosie Ming).
30 September 2016 6:15 PMVIFF at Vancouver Playhouse
Buy03 October 2016 3:45 PMVIFF at International Village 9
Ann Marie Fleming, one of Canada’s most beloved animators, is back with an extraordinary tale of art, history, and family.
Sandra Oh, Ellen Page and Don McKellar lend their voices to this warm and witty animated feature by Ann Marie Fleming (The Magical Life of Long Tack Sam) with narration by Mehdi Darvish.
Ann Marie Fleming’s Window Horses is a beautifully narrated and colourfully animated story of a young girl’s journey toward self-discovery. After being invited to a poetry festival in Shiraz, Iran, by a mysterious figure, Rosie Ming faces challenges and discoveries that ultimately lead to her self-realization. Unaware of the reasons behind her father’s disappearance, she has her perspective and conscience awakened by her experiences and the information she uncovers.
The first feature-length animation from the NFB to be selected for the festival since Pierre Hébert’s La plante humaine, the film features a rich colour palette sure to tantalize the audience. At times, it gives way to guest-animated sequences in which poetic illustration and artistic expression convey the spiritedness of living freely. Window Horses uses poetry, music and illustration to celebrate the value of accepting cultures, opening one’s mind and tapping into unknown aspects of the self as a form of self-transformation and spiritual transcendence.
“This is not just a visual treat, it’s a rewarding and unexpectedly engrossing piece of female-led storytelling.”—Wendy Ide, Screen.
The film seamlessly integrates different animation styles to express Rosie’s diverse experiences; the richness of this world is presented for the audience to marvel at with the same wide-eyed wonder as Rosie. One of the most magical things about Window Horses is how a single sentence, an idea, or a scrap of history can come to life in the most colourful and graceful of ways, flowering into a poetic universe all its own.

The Unseen director Geoff Redknap breaks the mould for a unique take on the invisible man story.
The film was shot in Vancouver, Langley and Kelowna.
30 September 2016 6:00 PM – VIFF at Rio Theatre.
07 October 2016 4:15 PM – VIFF at International Village 10.
Drawing inspiration from both H.G. Wells and macabre headlines, Geoff Redknap’s audacious debut is a narratively rich and psychologically complex thriller.
Suffering from an uncanny affliction, Bob (Rectify’s Aden Young) has entered self-imposed exile, toiling in a lumber mill in northern British Columbia. However, to suggest that Bob wants to disappear would be unfair. In actual fact, the fates have left him with little say in the matter. (And to share any more would be a disservice to the copious surprises contained in Redknap’s exceptional script.) When his estranged daughter Eva’s (Julia Sarah Stone) behaviour takes a turn for the rebellious, Bob is summoned back to Vancouver by his ex (Camille Sullivan). In turn, he’s drawn into a dark underworld involving drug dealing, animal poaching and organ trading.
Given that Redknap is a veteran special makeup effects artist, it’s only fitting that his first feature should prove itself to be so meticulously detailed as it seamlessly grafts supernatural elements onto relatable human drama. And while its influences are readily evident, The Unseen is undeniably the product of a one filmmaker’s unique vision.
“[An] extraordinary feature film debut… The Unseen is the best of its kind to come along since Unbreakable. I do not offer this praise frivolously, as the execution is so startlingly confident here… Undoubtedly, it is a sure sign of many more great things to come.”—Kurt Halfyard, Screen Anarchy.

Mike Li and Willy Lavandel each wrap roles on iZombie, episodes 305 and 306 respectively.
iZombie brings back its unique tone, style, and characters in the continuing story of Seattle morgue assistant and reluctant zombie, Liv Moore (Rose McIver). Alongside her spunky English boss, Ravi (Rahul Kohli), and her partner in crime-solving, Detective Clive Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin), Liv continues to use her special mind-eating/reading abilities to bring Seattle’s criminals to justice.
The “iZombie” Season 3 release date, which happens early next year, must seem an agonizingly long wait for fans of the comedy horror series. Thankfully, a lot of exciting details about what’s in store for fans next season have already been revealed which should make the wait somewhat more bearable. Here are the latest “iZombie” Season 3 spoilers.
For fans who might have felt that Liv is a little too unlucky in the romance department, Executive Producer Rob Thomas assures that Liv will be luckier this season. Bucking the trend of two boyfriends who already died, Liv will finally have a boyfriend who does not get killed with the arrival of “iZombie‘ Season 3 release date.
However, that does not mean that Liv’s relationship will last forever though. Thomas clarified that in the coming “iZombie” Season 3, Liv will have a relationship that does not end because of the death of her boyfriend. But of course it will still end.
In addition, the zombie threat will become more apparent in the coming “iZombie” Season 3. It was revealed that the zombies are gearing up for the eventuality that humans will find out about them and are determined to fight for their right to exist.
In fact, “iZombie” Season 3 could present a credible zombie army. Executive Producer Rob Thomas teased that the zombies are being thorough in their preparation and talks about arming and training themselves for the coming war. The zombies will actually approach Liv to join their ranks in the coming “iZombie” Season 3. Apparently, Liv might be tempted to join their side as well. Thomas concludes that eventually, Liv has to decide whether she is still human or already full zombie.
Fans of The CW comedy zombie series will have to brace themselves for a three-month wait. While the network has not yet announced a specific “iZombie” Season 3 release date, the third season is expected to premiere by January 2017.

Parker Brando wraps on Arrow – Episode 508
On March 11, 2016, Arrow was renewed for a fifth season by The CW. It premiered on October 5, 2016.
After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the North China Sea. He returned home to Star City, bent on righting the wrongs done by his family and fighting injustice. As the Green Arrow, he protects his city with the help of former soldier John Diggle, computer-science expert Felicity Smoak, his vigilante-trained sister Thea Queen, former police captain Quentin Lance, and brilliant inventor Curtis Holt. But sinister players with a connection to Oliver’s past will push the team to its breaking point, threatening everything Oliver’s worked for and his legacy as the Green Arrow.
Newly appointed Mayor Oliver Queen finds himself challenged as he fights on two fronts for the future of Star City. With Diggle back in the military and Thea adamant about hanging up her hood as Speedy, Team Green Arrow is down to just Oliver and Felicity – but they’re no longer the only vigilantes in town. Green Arrow’s public defeat of Damien Darhk at the end of Season Four has inspired a new crop of masked heroes to step up and defend the city, though their painful inexperience makes them obstacles, rather than allies, in the field. The arrival of a deadly new adversary will force Oliver to confront questions about his own legacy, both as mayor and as the Green Arrow.
There will be a crossover between Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow in December 2016, with one episode from each series acting as a chapter in a four-part story. The plot for the crossover will be an adaptation of DC Comics’ “Invasion!” story event from the late 1980s. In keeping with the source material, the villains of the television event will be an alien race known as the Dominators.

David Ramsey as John Diggle/Spartan
Willa Holland as Thea Queen/Speedy
Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak/Overwatch
Echo Kellum as Curtis Holt

Keep an eye out for Eric Gibson on Lucifer – Episode 205
Lucifer is a crime procedural with a wickedly bonkers twist. Satan has swapped hell for present day Los Angeles and a new career as an amateur sleuth. It’s CSI meets Paradise Lost, with a super-sized helping of jokey self-awareness.
Returning for a second season as the eponymous Lucifer Morningstar, Welsh-born former EastEnders actor Tom Ellis is a scenery-munching delight. He understands the show, adapted very loosely from a Neil Gaiman comic book, can work only by leaning in to the inherent absurdity of its premise. With an enthusiasm that is indeed devilish, Ellis waggles his eyebrows, delivers his lines with an almost-audible wink and nudge and generally carries on as if playing to the cheap-seats at a pantomime.
Lucifer’s grand conceit is that, far from the embodiment of evil, Satan is merely a misunderstood rebel fed up with presiding over hell and keen to try something more interesting.
Season 2 of The-Devil-leaves-Hell-for-L.A. series premiered on Monday, September 19th on FOX. Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) and his brother Amenadiel (DB Woodside) are plagued this season by their Mom Charlotte (Tricia Helfer), who has escaped Hell and after a couple of false starts finds a hot new body as her vessel.
